Location of the Palace of Holyroodhouse

Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. It is located at the bottom end of the Edinburgh Royal Mile, at the opposite end to Edinburgh Castle. It is used regularly to welcome VIP guests, dignitaries and diplomats from across the globe.

Queen Elizabeth resides there for a week during Holyrood week, which is held at the end of June each year and include garden parties and various dinitary visits.

Public access revenue is managed by the Royal Collection Trust to support its work as custodian of the Royal Collection. In April 2016 the Royal Collection Trust announced its intention to fund a £10m project that will redevelop the outside areas at Holyroodhouse, including Holyrood Abbey, the grounds and forecourt. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2018 in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland.
